Down the memory Lane....

It was in the year 1986,that Rotary Bangalore-West thought of extending Rotary to the Community of Vijayanagar.Two enthusiastic & enterprising Rotarians were given the responsibility of surveying and finding members for the new club.Rtn.PP.M.R.Shankar of West Club was appointed as the GSR and under the able leadership of Rtn.K.M.Prabhu and another Rtn.PP.B.S.N.Bhushan, Rotary Bangalore Vijayanagar found the light on 28-12-1986 By provisionally getting inagurated by the then District Governor Rtn.Uday Shankar at Hotel Windsor Manor with Rtns.K.M.Prabhu & D.Muralidhara as the Chartered President and Secretary respectively,the total charter membership being 35.

Our Club was admitted to the Rotary International in a Record Time i.e. on 11-02-1987 and the “CHARTER” was presented to the Club at a gala ceremony on 10-04-1987.The RBV brought out its maiden club bulletin “VIJAYA CHAKRA” with the Stone Chariot LOGO of the Vijayanagar Empire known for its traditions and sculptures.

The Club has produced dynamic and dedicated leaders from its inception. Each and Every leader excelled the other by undertaking unique community service projects, which caught the attention of the community of Vijayanagar.A few of the projects endearing to the community of Vijayanagar are as follows:-

Adoption of Govt.Model Primary School in Vijayanagar for its all-round development since 12 years.
Commissioning of Automatic Traffic Signal at Vijaynagar Bus stand/
Installation of Traffic Umbrella near Vijayanagar Telephone Exchange
A regular Auto Rickshaw stand at Vijayanagar.
Providing a number of telephone booths for the Physically Handicapped persons in & around Vijayanagar.
Commissioning of a “MINI DRINKING WATER SUPPLY’’ scheme at Bachhahally.
Sponsored Rotary Club of Basaveswaranagar & Rotary
Implementation of the “PULSE POLIO PROGRAMME” in a most befitting manner Year after year, which has caught not only the attention of the public but also the Rotary District & the National Polio Plus committee.
Mega Health Checkup camps for “ POLICE PERSONNEL” of Bangalore
Donation of School Benches to the needy Govt & Corporation Schools in and around Vijayanagar through the Matching Grant Project.

Apart from the above, the Club has also conducted, the following seminars over the years that has benefited the community in general:-

Seminar on ‘LIFE AFTER FIFTY” giving an insight to the executives of Public & Private sector companies to prepare themselves well for the retirement.
Seminar on “ ETHICALLY YOURS” encouraging entrepreneurs to bring ethics In their business.
“RYLA” camps for the Youth including for those, who are “ Speech & hearing impaired”, totally blind & to the Street children.

It is worthwhile mentioning a few Firsts for which the Club stood in the District:-

Had the youngest President in the District ( Rtn. M.A.Gupta in 1994-95)
First Club to have conducted more than 30,000 immunizations in the NIDs
First to have a hatrick in the selection of GSE candidates refered by the Club.
First to have conducted a RYLA for the blind ( at the “School for the Blind” in Jeevan Bhima Nagar.
First to have conducted a RYLA to the Deaf & Dumb ( for the students at RV school in Visveswarapuram)
First Club to induct a Lady Rtn.Mrs.Clementine John, after the Rotary International Gave its nod for inducting women members.

The secret behind the success of the Club are attributed to the leadership qualities of the members of the Club and to the total involvement of the Rotarians, Anns & Annets of the Club . Presently we have 52 dedicated members in our club ,who work towards the goals of Rotary.

In this Rotary Year 2007-08, Rotarians of RBV rededicate themselves to the ideals of Rotary under the leadership of President Rtn. P.V.Rai and will leave no stone unturned in treading the glorious path paved by the distinguished Past Presidents of the Club and will truly & sincerely excel in their endeavour of “ SHARING ROTARY” with the community..
